Abstract

Life of Pi by Yann Martel is a captivating novel that goes beyond physical strength and depicts the determination of the human spirit when faced with extreme hardship. The research looks at the different ways in which the main character, Pi Patel, manages to stay alive while he is stuck in the Pacific Ocean for 227 days after his shipwreck. It analyses how Pi stays alive not only through practical knowledge and resourcefulness, but also through psychological adaptation and spiritual faith. Although he is physically fighting with nature and Richard Parker, a Bengal tiger, he is also fighting inside himself to keep his morals, beliefs, and health. According to this study, storytelling helps people deal with trauma by giving them different aspects to live in. Martel paints a full picture of human resilience by observing how ecology, belief, and story interact with each other.
