Abstract
In this digital era, technology has changed the way English is taught and learned in the classroom. The audiovisual method gives students opportunities to learn through both words and visuals. These methods improve learners’ learning style and motivate them to acquire fundamental language learning ability. English Language Acquisition is supported by bringing together Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning and Paivio’s Dual Coding Theory in classroom. Both theories have lots of similarities and explain how learners process verbal and non-verbal information. When the information is presented to the eyes and ears at the same time, it is stored permanently in long-term memory. People are active learners who try to make sense of multiple content. This perspective is different from the common idea that learners are passive receivers who simply store as much information as possible, like a tape recorder saving copies of experience for later recall. This paper therefore highlights how Mayer’s Cognitive Theory and Paivio’s Dual Coding Theory work in digital classroom to create a more engaging and meaningful learning experience and support students in developing their English Language skills in the digital classroom.
